Day shifting moods

On the morning of October 18th, 2024, I woke up to a foggy scene outside my window. It was so cold that I put on an extra jacket before walking from my accommodation to the studio.

So, after starting the day with a foggy and cold morning, it had cleared up to sunny weather by the time I returned from university. It sounds like a day with shifting moods, from misty and chilly to bright and warm!

In Vibrant Matter, Jane Bennett explores the idea that all objects, even non-living things, have a kind of vitality or "thing-power." She argues that we usually see objects as passive and only meaningful in relation to human use, but in reality, they have their own energy and ability to affect the world.

This reflection talks about how everyday things we might usually ignore—like a glove, a rat, a bottle cap, and a stick—can take on a new, almost "alive" quality when we really pay attention to them. Normally, we see them as just trash or objects, but in the right moment, like on that sunny morning, they seem to have their own presence, almost as if they’re speaking or asking to be noticed.

It also touches on how our consumer culture makes us buy and throw away so many things that we forget these objects have their own value and energy. The author, inspired by famous thinkers like Thoreau and others, suggests that if we look closely, even something as simple as a bottle cap can seem special and full of life, reminding us to appreciate the world in a different way.

Discussion on Fraton Site Visit

We had a discussion about what a site means to us..?

A site refers to the physical location where a building or structure will be placed, but its meaning goes much deeper than just geography. A site encompasses all the environmental, social, cultural, and regulatory aspects that influence the design and construction process.

A site can be considered based on geological location, Topography, climate and environment, context and surroundings, cultural and historical factors, zoning and access and circulation.

I did a zoning on how Fratton community center has a zoning and later, we wrapped up by discussing everyone's blog.
