Concept and Design
Keeping Wall-E in mind, I began designing a Portable Dustbin for Fratton. However, it’s more than just a dustbin—it's a robot designed to perform the task of collecting rubbish. My robot is portable, designed to be easily carried by me or the user, making it convenient and adaptable for various situations.
Considering rubbish collection, I decided to repurpose the materials I’ve gathered. Instead of discarding any components after dismantling, I plan to carefully reuse them, ensuring minimal waste and sustainable use of resources.
I didn’t want to replicate the abstract of Wall-E since it already exists. Instead, I aimed to create my own abstract design using the materials and parts I had available, building the entire concept around those unique elements.
Starting with sketches, I began to visualize how the outcome would unfold. This process helped me shape the design and concept, allowing me to see how each part would come together in the final result.
I explained my idea to Belinda and Oren, and they asked how it would interact with the body. This question made me think about how the robot could engage with the user physically—whether through its portability, movement, or how it encourages interaction during the rubbish collection process. It made me consider incorporating features that facilitate ease of use and physical connection.
