#Blog 11 1:1 Poster Of Furniture and Artefact

#Blog 11 1:1 Poster Of Furniture and Artefact My poster concept of 1:1 working drawings with plans and elevations, including the final outcome of the artefact.  Plan of my artefact  Elevation of my artefact  Drawing of my artefact  The Ecobot is an artefact inspired by the fictional character Wall-E, a robot that collects and organizes waste. Designed to collect rubbish from a community center, the Ecobot reimagines discarded materials as agents with vitality, aligning with Jane Bennett's Vibrant Matter . It also reflects Richard Serra’s action-oriented verbs like discard, gather, collect, and group , emphasizing material transformation. The development of the Ecobot began with the idea of reclaiming waste as vibrant and meaningful. Inspired by Bennett’s notion that objects have agency, the design uses discarded furniture—an old wooden table—to highlight how objects can shape ecological systems. Functionally, the Ecobot collects and groups waste, promoting cl...

#Blog 10 Performance of Senses

Image
#Blog 10 Performance of Senses In the following studio class, we engaged in a discussion about integrating and combining everyone’s ideas into a collaborative sheet that captures the performance of all senses, including touch, feel, hearing, vision, mind, and body. So, we were a team of 6 people, Myself, Gladis, Umran, Usman, Zara and Foad. We planned to rework on the entire site as we are a big team and also Fratton community centre needed us. Site Analysis As a team, we visited the site Fratton Community Centre and found the space was actually used by all age groups so it should be redesigned based on the usage of the people. It was located on Trafalger Pl, Fratton, Portsmouth. We drew the layout of the space and also did the site analysis as well. It serves as a central hub for local residents, offering a diverse range of facilities and activities. The centre is open daily, with operating hours varying throughout the week. They have facilities like the gym, sports hall, function ...

#Blog 9 Design Implementation at FRATTON

Image
#Blog 9 Design Implementation at FRATTON During last week's review, we discovered elements that were initially overlooked, such as the similarities in the verbs used across each teammate's work. This revealed a common ground that deepened our understanding of the project. We focused on the performance of the senses like touch, hearing, sight, and the connection between mind and body—to enrich the experience and exploration of our work. Later, as part of the process, I focused on verbs such as discard , gather , collect , and group , inspired by Richard Serra. Interestingly, verbs like gather , assemble , inlay , and discover were commonly used across the team, highlighting shared themes in our work. I chose to rework the shed at the Fratton Centre, as the space felt dull, unwelcoming, and primarily used for storage. Firstly, the walls needed windows to address the lack of ventilation and bring in natural light—an essential aspect, especially considering how Usman's w...

#Blog 8 The Visual Voice

Image
#Blog 8 The Visual Voice We had a photography session on 24th of November,2024 learning a new workshop, like photography, often feels like stepping into excitement. I started to keep my ecobot and experiment with it on different angles. It can evoke a mix of emotions, depending on the perspective and openness to the experience:  Discovering the art and techniques behind photography can spark a sense of awe. We start noticing details in everyday life—light, shadows, angles—that have overlooked before. Understanding the tools, like cameras and lenses, might seem like decoding a new language.  As we begin experimenting and learning, there's a sense of empowerment in  capturing moments and telling stories through unique lens.  Photography encourages us to see the world differently. It invites you to play with colors, textures, and perspectives, making the process deeply immersive. We  might not get the perfect shot on the first try, which can be frustra...

#Blog 7 Functionality of Ecobot

Image
#Blog 7 Functionality of Eco bot How the ecobot is designed to be carried by users? Essentially, the cloth can be draped over the body of the Eco Bot to symbolize its portability and flexibility. This design element not only adds to its visual appeal but also emphasizes its mobility, allowing it to be easily transported and used in various locations. The EcoBot is a heavy-weighted object, which is an intentional aspect of its design due to the materials involved, such as wood. While its weight adds durability and stability, it also reflects the robustness required for its functionality. I wanted to collect more images this week to gain a better perspective of the artefact. How the robot aligns with eco-friendly practices? The EcoBot is the perfect sustainable dustbin, designed with verbs like collect , discard , grouping , and gather in mind. These concepts inspired me to create the EcoBot, with its primary aim being to collect waste, handle discarded rubbish, and gather materia...

#Blog 6 My EcoBot

Image
#Blog 6 My Eco Bot : "Redefining Waste Management Through Design" Firstly, I began creating the body of the EcoBot by designing a shape that serves as its main structure. I then added a few features, such as legs repurposed from a table, to give it stability and functionality. To make it more engaging, I also incorporated a welcoming look, ensuring it feels approachable and user-friendly. I worked on assembling the body of the EcoBot using various joinery techniques, as depicted below. These joineries not only provide structural stability but also align with the sustainable and handcrafted approach of the design. Since the EcoBot is intended for use in Fratton, I thought of making it more engaging for kids by giving it a funky, playful look. This design choice aims to attract their attention and encourage interaction, making rubbish collection a fun and educational experience. From the very beginning, my goal has always been to create an EcoBot that prioritizes sustainabilit...

#Blog 5 Concept and Design

Image
#Blog 5  Concept and Design "The concept evolved from  Wall-E , an animated science fiction film set in the 29th century, where Earth has been abandoned due to environmental degradation caused by overconsumption and corporate neglect." Keeping Wall-E in mind, I began designing a Portable Dustbin for Fratton. However, it’s more than just a dustbin—it's a robot designed to perform the task of collecting rubbish. My robot is portable, designed to be easily carried by me or the user, making it convenient and adaptable for various situations. Considering rubbish collection, I decided to repurpose the materials I’ve gathered. Instead of discarding any components after dismantling, I plan to carefully reuse them, ensuring minimal waste and sustainable use of resources. I didn’t want to replicate the abstract of Wall-E since it already exists. Instead, I aimed to create my own abstract design using the materials and parts I had available, building the entire concept around those...
